POULTRYINDONESIA, Jakarta<\/b> \u2014 The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) is finalizing steps to accelerate the downstreaming of the national poultry industry. This strategy aims to strengthen the supply of animal protein while ensuring production is evenly distributed across regions. The development of this integrated poultry industry is designed not only to improve supply chain efficiency but also to place community farmers at the heart of the national poultry industry’s strengthening.<\/p>\n
Through an integrated “upstream-to-downstream” approach\u2014encompassing feed supply, breeding, farm management, and processing\u2014the government targets a poultry business structure that is more efficient, sustainable, and equitable. This integration is expected to reduce production costs, maintain price stability, and open up more certain market access for farmers, particularly those at small and medium scales.<\/p>\n
This commitment was reaffirmed during the Consolidation Meeting for Integrated Poultry Industry Downstreaming at the Ministry of Agriculture Headquarters in Jakarta on Monday (Jan 8). Makmun, the Director of Livestock Product Downstreaming at the Ministry, stated that Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman has issued Ministerial Decree No. 1371 of 2025 regarding the formation of a Task Force for Egg and Poultry Meat Production Enhancement.<\/p>\n
“The formation of this task force is a testament to the government\u2019s seriousness in strengthening the poultry sector as the backbone of the national animal protein supply,” Makmun said.<\/p>\n
The task force will begin operations in 2026 with a mandate to oversee cross-sector program implementation. Its duties include mentoring farmers, mapping regional production potential, and accelerating investment in integrated poultry industries across various regions in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Ali Agus, the Minister\u2019s Expert Staff for Livestock Product Downstreaming, emphasized that the downstreaming policy is designed to create a healthy industrial ecosystem without abandoning community farmers. According to him, the state’s role is key to ensuring that industrial growth is equitable and inclusive.<\/p>\n
“The state is present as a facilitator, regulator, and guardian. The goal is for the poultry industry not just to grow in one region, but to develop fairly and sustainably outside of Java,” he remarked.<\/p>\n
The government targets the construction of 323 integrated poultry facility units<\/b> spread across approximately 30 provinces. These facilities include feed mills, breeding units, broiler and layer farms, poultry slaughterhouses (RPU), cold storage, and derivative product processing units.<\/p>\n
Through this downstreaming push, farmers are expected to receive direct benefits in the form of better business efficiency, price certainty, and new job opportunities in the processing and distribution sectors. Furthermore, strengthening the national supply chain is believed to enhance food security while driving regional economic growth.<\/p>\n
The Ministry views integrated poultry downstreaming not just as a technical instrument for sector development, but as part of a long-term strategy to improve farmer welfare, expand the role of local entrepreneurs, and strengthen the foundation of the national food industry toward “Indonesia Emas 2045.”<\/p>\n
