POULTRYINDONESIA, Jakarta<\/strong> \u2013 Ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2026<\/strong>, the government has assured that national supplies of eggs and chicken meat<\/strong> are in a safe condition with prices remaining under control<\/strong>. To maintain this stability, the Ministry of Agriculture has tightened supervision from upstream to downstream<\/strong>, particularly in the distribution of day-old chicks (DOC)<\/strong> and feed raw materials<\/strong>, to protect smallholder poultry farmers.<\/h6>\n
The Director General of Livestock and Animal Health Services (PKH)<\/strong>, Agung Suganda<\/strong>, emphasized that the government is actively following up on various complaints submitted by broiler and layer farmers<\/strong>. Oversight is focused on production input prices<\/strong> and DOC trading practices<\/strong>, which are considered crucial to the sustainability of farming operations, especially for small-scale and independent farmers<\/strong>.<\/h6>\n
According to Agung, the government has summoned breeding companies and farmer cooperatives<\/strong> to ensure compliance with existing regulations. He stressed that broiler DOC prices<\/strong> have been set under National Food Agency Decree No. 524 of 2025<\/strong>, at IDR 7,000 per chick at the farm level<\/strong> and IDR 11,000 per chick loco feedmill<\/strong>.<\/h6>\n

\u201cThese DOC pricing provisions must be implemented by all business players. With these regulations in place, we hope the poultry ecosystem remains balanced and smallholder farmers are not put under pressure,\u201d Agung said on Friday (January 23, 2026).<\/p>\n

He added that the government would not hesitate to take firm action<\/strong> if violations are found in the field. If there are indications of price manipulation or non-compliance<\/strong> by breeding companies, the Food Task Force (Satgas Pangan)<\/strong> will immediately conduct inspections under the instruction of the Minister of Agriculture.<\/h6>\n

\u201cWe do not want any party to take excessive profits while farmers are struggling. If violations are found, they will certainly be dealt with firmly,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

Beyond DOC, Agung also highlighted the importance of maintaining feed price stability<\/strong>, particularly for key raw materials such as soybean meal (SBM)<\/strong>. He urged importers not to disrupt supply or engage in practices that could drive up feed prices.<\/h6>\n

\u201cFeed costs account for the largest portion of production expenses. If the supply or price of raw materials is disrupted, the impact is felt immediately by farmers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Agung revealed that live bird prices at the farm level<\/strong> are currently below the reference selling price<\/strong>. Based on field monitoring, live chicken prices are around IDR 23,000 per kilogram<\/strong>, while the reference production cost<\/strong> is approximately IDR 25,000 per kilogram<\/strong>.<\/h6>\n

\u201cThis condition is a serious concern for the government. We continue to monitor the situation so farmers are not harmed, while at the same time ensuring consumers still receive fair prices,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The strengthened supervision measures have been positively received by farmers. Suwardi<\/strong>, Chairman of the Prosperous Poultry Farmers Cooperative (KPUS)<\/strong>, appreciated the government\u2019s swift response to the concerns of broiler and layer farmers.<\/h6>\n

\u201cThe meeting with the Director General of PKH shows the government\u2019s support for smallholder farmers. We hope this supervision is not merely temporary, but implemented consistently,\u201d Suwardi said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, from the breeding industry\u2019s perspective, Achmad Dawami<\/strong>, Chairman of the Indonesian Poultry Breeding Companies Association (GPPU)<\/strong>, assured that national supplies of chicken and eggs<\/strong> are sufficient to meet increased demand during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.<\/h6>\n

\u201cNational broiler DOC production currently reaches around 70 million chicks per week<\/strong>, while egg production is approximately 14,000 tons per day<\/strong>. From the supply side, conditions are safe,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

Previously, Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman<\/strong>, who also serves as Head of the National Food Agency<\/strong>, reaffirmed the government\u2019s firm stance against business players who violate price regulations. He stated that there would be no tolerance<\/strong> for practices that harm farmers or consumers.<\/h6>\n

\u201cAll business players must comply with the maximum retail price (HET)<\/strong> or reference production price (HPP)<\/strong>. If anyone sells above these provisions, I will revoke their license. There will be no compromise,\u201d Minister Amran asserted in Jakarta on Thursday (January 22, 2026).<\/p>\n

With increasingly stringent supervision and strengthened cross-sector coordination, the government remains optimistic<\/strong> that the stability of supply and prices for eggs and chicken meat can be maintained. These measures are expected to provide business certainty for farmers<\/strong> while also ensuring consumer protection<\/strong> ahead of major religious holidays.<\/h6>\n
