POULTRYINDONESIA, Jakarta<\/b> \u2014 The availability of chicken meat and egg supplies remains secure, according to Minister of Agriculture and Head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas), Andi Amran Sulaiman. This statement was issued following findings by the Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), which recorded an ongoing upward trend in the prices of several strategic food commodities in the market.<\/h6>\n
In a statement at the Bapanas Office in Jakarta on Wednesday (4\/3\/2026), Amran explained that all price recommendations for meat and egg products had been issued since December under his direct instruction. Field inspections have shown no supply bottlenecks originating from the Ministry of Agriculture\u2019s side.<\/h6>\n
“All recommendations have been released. Within the Ministry of Agriculture, there are no strings attached; that has been my order since December. Our needs for chicken meat and eggs have been met, and stocks are secure,” he asserted.<\/h6>\n
Instead, the price hikes are suspected to be triggered by supply withholding practices at the middleman level. These findings prompted Amran to order the Food Task Force, the Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation (Ditkrimsus), and police ranks across Indonesia to immediately conduct strict monitoring and firm enforcement.<\/h6>\n
“Everyone holding stocks of meat and eggs must release them; the point is, do not let prices rise. If we find that middlemen are acting improperly\u2014playing with prices or withholding stock\u2014we will not hesitate to take action, possibly even sealing [their premises],” Amran said.<\/h6>\n
The government aims for all strategic commodities to continue being traded below the established Maximum Retail Price (HET). To that end, smoothing distribution from producers to the market is the top priority, as ensuring seamless distribution eliminates hurdles that potentially disadvantage consumers.<\/h6>\n
On the other hand, Amran expressed his appreciation to poultry business players and exporters who are seen as consistent in maintaining production while expanding the reach of export markets. The export achievement of 545 tons of poultry products, valued at Rp18.2 billion, to Singapore, Japan, and Timor-Leste throughout March 2026 serves as a benchmark of success.<\/h6>\n
“Charoen Pokphand, Japfa, and the others\u2014thank you to the entrepreneurs. This is what we want to achieve,” he said.<\/h6>\n
Meanwhile, the Director General of Livestock and Animal Health Services, Agung Suganda, encouraged the strengthening of price monitoring mechanisms, especially during periods of surging demand such as Ramadan and leading up to Eid al-Fitr. Price information transparency at the market level must be clear to curb speculative practices.<\/h6>\n
“It is proposed that every market has a price panel that updates information periodically so that consumers know the real price; that way, if a seller is charging high prices, consumers can be more selective,” Agung stated.<\/h6>\n
Agung added that cross-stakeholder consolidation was carried out prior to Ramadan to ensure that supply availability and price stability remain maintained. All poultry business players have been asked to play an active role in guarding price stability to prevent excessive spikes at the trader level.<\/h6>\n
