POULTRYINDONESIA, Jakarta<\/strong> \u2013 A special meeting was convened by Andi Amran Sulaiman<\/span><\/span>, Indonesia\u2019s Minister of Agriculture, on Sunday to discuss anticipatory measures against the threat of drought and global geopolitical dynamics that are considered to have the potential to disrupt national food security. During the forum, it was emphasized that the condition of national food production and stock is being monitored intensively by the government to ensure that public needs remain well supplied.<\/h6>\n
Based on data released by the Ministry of Agriculture in March 2026, the availability of national rice stocks is currently considered to be in a safe position. Monthly rice production is recorded at around 2.6 to 5.7 million tons, exceeding the national average consumption of 2.59 million tons per month. Overall, total national rice availability has now reached 27.99 million tons, including stocks held by Perum Bulog<\/span><\/span> amounting to 3.76 million tons, approximately 12.50 million tons stored by the public, and standing crops or rice ready for harvest totaling 11.73 million tons.<\/h6>\n
\u201cOur domestic supply is very strong. Based on today\u2019s data, total national rice stocks are sufficient to meet demand for the next 324 days, or roughly 10.8 months. In some months, production can even reach 5.7 million tons, so the public does not need to feel worried,\u201d said Minister Amran from the Ministry of Agriculture\u2019s headquarters in Jakarta on Sunday (March 8).<\/h6>\n
The government has also prepared several concrete measures to anticipate the threat of the dry season, which could potentially reduce agricultural productivity. The pump irrigation program that previously covered 1.2 million hectares of land last year will be expanded by an additional 1 million hectares this year. In addition, the development of additional pumping irrigation systems (irpom) is planned for another 1 million hectares of land to ensure water availability for rice crops during the dry season.<\/h6>\n
\u201cThe potential for drought has been anticipated early through the pump irrigation program. This year we will add another 1 million hectares to maintain production. Global geopolitical turbulence as well as the threat of El Ni\u00f1o will not significantly affect our condition. Our production is strong and our stocks are secure,\u201d he emphasized.<\/h6>\n
Furthermore, government rice reserves are projected to continue increasing and are expected to reach 5 million tons within the next two months, in line with the arrival of major harvests from various regions. A surplus has also been reported in poultry and egg commodities. Meanwhile, fertilizer availability is confirmed to be sufficient, with prices reportedly decreasing by around 20 percent.<\/h6>\n
\u201cFertilizer is sufficiently available and prices have even dropped by about 20 percent. This is a major motivation for farmers to keep producing. God willing, our food supply is secure, production is strong, stocks are sufficient, and various anticipatory measures have already been implemented,\u201d Minister Amran concluded.<\/h6>\n
