POULTRYINDONESIA, Ternate<\/strong> \u2013 The North Maluku Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine Agency has culled 20 poultry birds that lacked official permits and were suspected to have originated from North Sulawesi and Southeast Sulawesi. This action was taken to safeguard biosecurity and prevent the entry of infectious animal diseases into the North Maluku region.<\/h6>\n
Head of the North Maluku Quarantine Agency, Sugeng Prayogo, stated that the culling was part of quarantine law enforcement as well as an effort to protect animal health and food safety.<\/h6>\n
\u201cMaintaining a disease-free status and ensuring biosecurity in North Maluku is a priority, therefore this firm action is necessary,\u201d said Sugeng when contacted by media in Ternate on Tuesday.<\/h6>\n
According to him, poultry entering without proper quarantine procedures has the potential to carry strategic infectious animal diseases, such as avian influenza. This disease could have serious impacts on animal-based food production and disrupt food security.<\/h6>\n
Sugeng emphasized that monitoring of animal and animal product traffic will continue to be intensified, especially at entry and exit points in North Maluku.<\/h6>\n
\u201cWe are committed to keeping North Maluku safe from animal disease threats and taking action against any quarantine violations,\u201d he said. He added that the measure is also part of the Indonesian Quarantine Agency\u2019s preventive efforts to stop the entry and spread of Quarantine Animal Pests and Diseases (HPHK).<\/h6>\n
Meanwhile, Head of the Quarantine Law Enforcement Team for North Maluku, M. Rusli Samma, explained that the culling process was carried out in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.<\/h6>\n
The culling was conducted at the Animal Quarantine Installation in Sasa Subdistrict, South Ternate, following standard operating procedures while also observing animal welfare principles. The activity was witnessed by police officers as a form of transparency in implementing quarantine measures.<\/h6>\n
