Attended by academics, researchers, and industry practitioners, the forum was held as part of the AGRIMAT exhibition at NICE PIK 2 on Wednesday (6\/5).<\/h6>\n<h6 data-start=\"436\" data-end=\"914\">One of the technological innovations presented was LENTERA, an AI- and IoT-based smart farming system developed by the academic community of Brawijaya University to help maximize broiler performance. Danung Nur Adli, S.Pt., M.Sc., M.Pt., Lecturer at the Faculty of Animal Science, Brawijaya University, described the technology as a solution to the persistent issue of inconsistent chicken body weights in poultry houses, despite uniform strains, feed, and management practices.<\/h6>\n<h6 data-start=\"916\" data-end=\"1274\">\u201cEven though facilities, temperature, and management standards have been standardized, chicken body weights still vary. This remains a challenge for farmers, so we developed a technology capable of detecting chicken weight, health conditions, and even potential feed competition among birds simply by utilizing temperature and humidity sensors,\u201d said Danung.<\/h6>\n<h6 data-start=\"1276\" data-end=\"1555\">The system is connected to cloud technology, a monitoring dashboard, and vision image-based drones to automatically map poultry house conditions. As a result, farmers or field officers no longer need to frequently enter and exit the houses, helping maintain stricter biosecurity.<\/h6>\n<h6 data-start=\"1557\" data-end=\"1733\">\u201cWith drones, we can autonomously fly and record poultry house conditions. From there, officers can identify potential problems, enabling faster decision-making,\u201d he explained.<\/h6>\n<h6 data-start=\"1735\" data-end=\"2206\">At the same event, Principal Researcher at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Livestock Research Center, Dr. Ir. Cecep Hidayat, S.Pt., M.Si., IPM., ASEAN Eng., emphasized the importance of implementing precision nutrition to support the sustainability of the poultry industry. According to him, the nutrient requirements of modern broilers change daily in line with their genetic growth, making conventional feeding systems no longer sufficiently precise.<\/h6>\n<h6 data-start=\"2208\" data-end=\"2489\">As the world\u2019s fastest-growing livestock subsector, the global poultry industry is also facing major challenges in maintaining production sustainability. Cecep stated that, based on an international study published in 2021, there are eight key challenges that need to be addressed.<\/h6>\n<h6 data-start=\"2491\" data-end=\"2882\">These challenges include rising global poultry meat demand, high feed costs, limited natural resources and food competition, environmental impacts from feed production and poultry waste, nitrogen and phosphorus excretion, the biological limits of modern broiler genetic efficiency, animal welfare and meat quality concerns, as well as alternative production systems and environmental stress.<\/h6>\n<h6 data-start=\"2884\" data-end=\"3213\">\u201cAs a nutritionist, I see one of the main solutions to these challenges as the implementation of precision nutrition. The essence of precision nutrition is aligning nutrient supply with the individual animal\u2019s requirements in real-time or based on daily needs, so there is neither excess nor deficiency of nutrients,\u201d said Cecep.<\/h6>\n<h6 data-start=\"3215\" data-end=\"3592\">He explained that the traditional three-phase feeding system\u2014starter, grower, and finisher\u2014still leaves gaps between the chickens\u2019 nutrient requirements and the nutrient content in feed. This condition is considered to cause nutrient waste, increase production costs, and trigger nitrogen and ammonia excretion that contributes to environmental pollution within poultry houses.<\/h6>\n<h6 data-start=\"3594\" data-end=\"4047\">\u201cThere are several scopes within precision nutrition, ranging from determining daily nutrient requirements, accurately characterizing feed ingredients, precision feed formulation, precision feeding, to dynamic daily or multi-phase feeding systems. This method delivers nutrients in the right amount, at the right time, from the right source, and at the right cost to improve efficiency and sustainability in the poultry industry,\u201d Cecep explained.
