POULTRYINDONESIA, Tangerang \u2013 In an effort to strengthen the resilience of the national poultry industry, cross-sector collaboration became one of the key highlights at the MIPI-WPSA Indonesia National Seminar. Achmad Dawami, Chairman of the Indonesian Poultry Breeding Companies Association (GPPU), emphasized that the poultry industry cannot operate partially because the entire production chain, from breeding to distribution to consumers, is an interconnected system.<\/h6>\n
\u201cPoultry is an integrated system that cannot be separated into parts. From upstream to downstream, everything is interconnected. If even one part encounters problems, the final outcome will not meet expectations. An imbalance at one point will affect the entire system,\u201d said Dawami at NICE, PIK 2, on Wednesday (6\/5).<\/h6>\n
According to him, the entire production chain\u2014from grand parent stock (GPS), breeding farms, hatcheries, DOC production, feed mills, commercial farms, to distribution\u2014is a unified system that influences one another. Therefore, industry stability cannot rely solely on increasing production but also requires proper coordination and accurate supply-demand planning.<\/h6>\n
He stated that the industry\u2019s biggest challenges today include oversupply, live bird price fluctuations, dependence on imported raw materials, and disease risks. These issues are not merely production-related but concern the entire industrial system, in which the breeding sector plays a strategic role as the controller of the initial supply system.<\/h6>\n
\u201cAt the breeding level, the target for public consumption should first be determined, and then the required grand parent stock should be calculated backward. Even a single mistake at the grand parent stock level can impact the entire national system because fluctuations in DOC supply greatly affect live bird prices, which are highly sensitive to market balance. Even a slight oversupply immediately causes live chicken prices to fall,\u201d he explained.<\/h6>\n
Dawami added that the stability and resilience of the poultry industry are built upon four integrated pillars: supply governance, genetic leadership and precision nutrition, data and forecasting, and cycle-based intervention. He emphasized the importance of demand-based production planning, strengthening genetics and nutrition, integrating upstream-downstream data, and adapting technology to maintain supply-demand balance and industry efficiency.<\/h6>\n
\u201cStability is not accidental, but the result of control. The industry needs to be supported by synchronizing parent stock with market demand, supply monitoring, early warning systems, and stronger coordination among stakeholders. The development of a national data system is also important so that efficiency, price stability, and food security can be sustainably maintained,\u201d he stressed.<\/h6>\n
At the end of the event, Dr. Maria Ulfa, S.Pt., M.Sc. Agr., President of MIPI-WPSA Indonesia, expressed her gratitude to all participants who had taken the time to attend the discussion forum. According to her, the seminar served as a platform to strengthen collaboration among academics, researchers, practitioners, industry players, and the government in supporting the resilience of the national poultry industry.<\/h6>\n
\u201cThe discussions in this seminar were very interesting, particularly regarding implementation, communication, and collaboration. The important point is how we need government involvement to help all of us collaborate and synergize. Academics and researchers will not easily enter the industry without facilitation,\u201d said Maria Ulfa.<\/h6>\n
She believes that the implementation of research outcomes still requires regulatory and financial support in order to be more widely applied within the industry sector. Maria cited examples from several countries where governments facilitate collaboration between universities and industries through partnership programs and research funding support.<\/h6>\n
\u201cThe highlight of today\u2019s seminar is how research results can be implemented and integrated into commercialization or industry. Everything requires synergy and collaboration,\u201d she concluded. Anggi<\/h6>\n
