POULTRYINDONESIA, Jakarta \u2013 The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) has taken swift action to stabilize the price of live birds (LB), which has recently declined at the farmer level. The measure is aimed at protecting smallholder poultry farmers while ensuring the stability of the national food supply.<\/h6>\n
Director General of Livestock and Animal Health at the Ministry of Agriculture, Agung Suganda<\/span><\/span>, stated that the stabilization effort was carried out under the direct instruction of Minister of Agriculture and Head of the National Food Agency, Andi Amran Sulaiman<\/span><\/span>.<\/h6>\n
\u201cThe Minister instructed us to maintain the stability of production and prices for chicken and egg commodities, especially at the farmer level,\u201d Agung said after leading the National Poultry Stabilization Coordination Meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture office in Jakarta<\/span><\/span> on Monday (May 19, 2026).<\/h6>\n
The meeting, attended by related ministries, farmer associations, poultry companies, and cooperatives, resulted in an agreement to set the minimum selling price of live birds at the farmer level at Rp19,500 per kilogram for birds weighing 1.8 kilograms and above.<\/h6>\n
\u201cThis figure was not determined arbitrarily. The price was based on field conditions, including rising feed prices and logistics costs that are increasingly burdening farmers. This is a price acceptable to all parties and one that will help sustain our broiler production,\u201d he explained.<\/h6>\n
Meanwhile, Chairman IV of the Gabungan Perusahaan Pembibitan Unggas<\/span><\/span> (GPPU), Asrokh Nawawi<\/span><\/span>, explained that the recent price decline was triggered by market panic ahead of the National Religious Holidays (HBKN). Farmers tended to harvest chickens earlier and simultaneously, causing oversupply and a sharp drop in prices.<\/h6>\n
\u201cEven so, I am optimistic that the minimum price of Rp19,500 can become a turning point. This figure is realistic and will gradually move upward toward the reference price. This is a step we need to fight for together,\u201d he said.<\/h6>\n
Secretary General of the Central Board of the Perhimpunan Insan Perunggasan Rakyat Indonesia<\/span><\/span> (PINSAR), Muhlis Wahyudi<\/span><\/span>, emphasized that his organization had immediately mobilized members across Java to ensure the agreed price would take effect starting the next day.<\/h6>\n
\u201cTomorrow, this must already be implemented for birds weighing 1.8 kilograms and above,\u201d he stressed.<\/h6>\n
Among independent poultry farmers, the agreement was welcomed with relief, although with some reservations. Chairman of the Perhimpunan Peternak Rakyat Mandiri Indonesia<\/span><\/span>, Kusnan<\/span><\/span>, acknowledged that Rp19,500 still does not fully cover production costs. However, compared to previous conditions, the price is considered significantly better.<\/h6>\n
\u201cYesterday, prices were still around Rp18,000, and in some places even lower. This is good news. Hopefully, conditions will continue to improve ahead of Eid al-Adha and eventually reach the reference price of Rp25,000,\u201d Kusnan expressed.<\/h6>\n
The Ministry of Agriculture confirmed it will continue monitoring the implementation of this agreement in the field. Agung Suganda also stressed that the ministry would not hesitate to take action against any party violating the jointly agreed commitment.<\/h6>\n
\u201cThis is for our common interest. If anyone violates the agreement, we will take action according to the authority we have,\u201d he concluded.<\/h6>\n
