POULTRYINDONESIA, JAKARTA \u2013<\/strong> The Charoen Pokphand Best Student Appreciation (CPBSA) program once again brought together the worlds of education and the poultry industry through the CPBSA Batch 7 Meet & Greet, held at Novotel Mangga Dua Square Jakarta on August 13, 2026. The event was part of the program\u2019s series of activities following participants\u2019 completion of approximately one-and-a-half months of internships across various business units of PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk.<\/h6>\n
The event was attended by representatives of the management of PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk, leaders and academics from several universities, mentors, and CPBSA Batch 7 student participants. In addition to serving as a gathering, the event provided participants with a broader perspective on developments in the poultry industry, as well as the direction they need to prepare for as the next generation.<\/h6>\n
In her report, Ika K. Sesaria, Chairperson of the CPBSA Batch 7 Organizing Committee, stated that CPBSA has been running since 2017 and has continued to grow from year to year. The program, which initially involved six universities, has now expanded to 19 universities across Indonesia.<\/h6>\n
In Batch 7, 22 students were selected from more than 140 applicants from universities across Indonesia. Participants had to go through several stages of selection, including psychological tests, interviews, group discussions, and the creation of a \u201cWhy Me\u201d video demonstrating their interest and passion for agribusiness, particularly the poultry industry.<\/h6>\n
After being selected, participants took part in online training on analytical and problem-solving methods. The training was followed by in-person sessions on the poultry industry before they began their internships at various business units of PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia.<\/h6>\n
During their internships, participants did not merely learn about work within the company. They were also given opportunities to become directly involved in various activities and projects while honing their analytical, problem-solving, and professional skills.<\/h6>\n
\u201cParticipants were also encouraged to share their internship experiences through social media as an inspiration for other students,\u201d Ika explained. As a form of appreciation, CPBSA Batch 7 presented three awards: Best CPBSA Ambassador, Best CPBSA Project, and Best CPBSA Intern.<\/h6>\n
\"\"Born from Industry Needs<\/strong><\/span><\/h6>\n
CPBSA\u2019s journey, which has now reached its seventh batch, is of particular significance to Jemmy Wijaya, Director of PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk. In his speech, he recalled how the program was first conceived.<\/h6>\n
According to Jemmy, around seven years ago, the industry was still facing challenges in finding educated workers who genuinely understood animal husbandry while also being prepared to enter the workforce.<\/h6>\n
This situation prompted the idea of bringing industry and universities together. Students should not only acquire knowledge in the classroom but also be given opportunities to gain firsthand exposure to the industrial world. \u201cThere has to be a series of steps. Interest needs to grow, but there also has to be room for practical experience,\u201d Jemmy said.<\/h6>\n
Starting with only a few universities, the program gradually expanded. By Batch 7, CPBSA had produced alumni who went on to pursue careers in the industry, continue their education, and even take on managerial positions.<\/h6>\n
Jemmy noted that of approximately 150 CPBSA alumni, around 60% are now employed. Meanwhile, approximately 10%, or around 15 people, have already advanced to managerial positions.<\/h6>\n
For Jemmy, these achievements demonstrate that CPBSA is not merely a program for recruiting new employees. More importantly, the program is expected to foster greater awareness among the younger generation about the food sector and the sustainability of Indonesia\u2019s industry.<\/h6>\n
\u201cWe genuinely just want to inspire the younger generation to take care of food security. We don\u2019t want a situation where someone else is the one taking care of our food,\u201d he said.<\/h6>\n
Learning from Global Technological Developments<\/strong><\/span><\/h6>\n
After completing the series of activities in Indonesia, CPBSA Batch 7 participants also had the opportunity to take part in a poultry excursion to China. During the agenda, participants will visit several locations related to developments in the poultry industry and technology, including Famsun in Yangzhou and Xi\u2019an Jiaotong-Liverpool University in Suzhou, as well as attend the VIV exhibition in Shanghai.<\/h6>\n
Jemmy urged the participants not to view the trip merely as a new experience. Instead, he said the opportunity should be used to take a closer look at technological developments that have been implemented in other countries.<\/h6>\n
He hopes the participants can bring home ideas and enthusiasm to develop similar innovations in Indonesia. \u201cBring home at least the ideas, at least the desire to reach that level,\u201d he said.<\/h6>\n
According to him, technological development is one of the challenges facing Indonesia\u2019s poultry industry. Therefore, cooperation and knowledge exchange with other countries are important so that Indonesia does not merely become a market but is also capable of developing technologies suited to its own needs.<\/h6>\n
\"\"Safeguarding Food, Upholding Integrity<\/strong><\/span><\/h6>\n
On the occasion, Jemmy also reminded the participants that the poultry industry is closely connected to the food needs of society. Chicken meat and eggs, he explained, are important sources of protein because they are affordable and available in various parts of Indonesia. Therefore, the sustainability of the poultry industry is ultimately not only about business but also about ensuring that people\u2019s food needs continue to be met.<\/h6>\n
However, the industry\u2019s journey is not always easy. Various challenges continue to emerge, ranging from changing weather conditions and raw material issues to diseases that can disrupt livestock productivity. These circumstances require human resources who are willing to keep learning and are never quick to assume that their existing knowledge is sufficient.<\/h6>\n
\u201cAlways maintain your curiosity. Never be satisfied that what you have learned is complete today. There is always something new,\u201d Jemmy said. In addition to curiosity, he also emphasized the importance of integrity to the participants.<\/h6>\n
According to him, integrity is extremely important because the industry they have chosen is directly connected to the food consumed by society. Maintaining quality and meeting standards are not merely matters of compliance but also forms of responsibility toward consumers.<\/h6>\n
Preparing the Next Generation<\/strong><\/span><\/h6>\n
Jemmy hopes that CPBSA Batch 7 participants will view the experience they gained during the program as a foundation for their next journey. He likened the industry\u2019s journey to a relay race. Those currently playing a role in the industry will eventually hand over that responsibility to the next generation.<\/h6>\n
\u201cWhen the time comes, you will have to take over that role; you will have to carry it forward,\u201d he said. This message becomes increasingly relevant when considering the journey of PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia, which has grown over several decades. Jemmy reminded the participants that a large company is not built overnight and is not built by one person alone.<\/h6>\n
\"\"Behind the company\u2019s development are many people who have worked, learned, and contributed during their respective eras. The same is expected of the younger generation currently participating in CPBSA.<\/h6>\n
The Meet & Greet continued with presentations by the recipients of the CPBSA Batch 7 Best Awards: Sisilia Anggraeni from Diponegoro University as Best CPBSA Ambassador, Ida Bagus Ketut Satya Wira Darma from the University of Indonesia as Best CPBSA Project, and Rayner Tanafi Budiharja from the Bandung Institute of Technology as Best CPBSA Intern. The three awardees presented the work and achievements they accomplished during their internships.<\/h6>\n
Through the implementation of CPBSA Batch 7, PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia once again emphasized the importance of collaboration between industry and higher education.
