Breeding is the foundation of the poultry industry; when the upstream sector is strong, the entire production chain will grow healthier, more efficiently, and more competitively.<\/em><\/h6>\n
Amid rising national demand for animal protein and increasingly dynamic challenges facing the global poultry industry, the breeding sector is once again affirming its position as the foundation of Indonesia\u2019s poultry supply chain. Beyond producing day-old chicks<\/em> (DOC), the breeding industry is now expected to drive improvements in genetic quality, production efficiency, biosecurity, sustainability, and animal welfare.<\/h6>\n
This message emerged at the 14th Congress of the Indonesian Poultry Breeders Association (GPPU), held at DoubleTree by Hilton Bintaro Jaya, South Tangerang, on July 22\u201323, 2026.<\/h6>\n
Achmad Dawami, Chairman of GPPU for the 2022\u20132026 period, emphasized that industry developments require the breeding sector to continuously adapt to various changes, ranging from advances in genetic technology and the digitalization of breeding management to stronger biosecurity and the implementation of sustainability and animal welfare principles.<\/h6>\n
\u201cBreeding is the starting point of the entire poultry industry value chain. When the upstream sector is strong, the entire industry chain will grow healthier, more efficiently, and with greater competitiveness,\u201d said Dawami, who has led GPPU for two terms.<\/h6>\n
GPPU\u2019s 55th Anniversary Book Launched<\/strong><\/h6>\n
One of the key agendas of the congress was the launch of the book From Upstream to Food Security: GPPU\u2019s 55-Year Journey in Building a Sustainable Indonesian Poultry Industry<\/strong><\/em>. The 112-page book documents GPPU\u2019s journey since its establishment in 1970, including regulatory developments, the evolution of the breeding industry, and the organization\u2019s contributions to the development of Indonesia\u2019s poultry sector. In its first print run, GPPU published 1,150 copies, which were distributed to the Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health of the Ministry of Agriculture, speakers, GPPU members, and various Indonesian poultry industry stakeholders.<\/h6>\n
Dewa Putu Sumerta, head of the book\u2019s editorial team, said the preparation process took nearly a year and a half. Various historical documents, industry data, and input from industry players were compiled to produce comprehensive documentation.<\/h6>\n
\u201cThis book not only records the history of the organization, but is also expected to serve as a reference for industry players, academics, government officials, and younger generations who want to understand the development of Indonesia\u2019s poultry breeding sector,\u201d Dewa said.<\/h6>\n
He also expressed his appreciation to all the authors and 19 corporate sponsors who supported the publication process. According to him, the book represents a legacy of knowledge that is expected to serve as both a reflection and an inspiration for the development of Indonesia\u2019s poultry industry.<\/h6>\n
Asrokh Nawawi to Lead GPPU for 2026\u20132030<\/strong><\/h6>\n
The 14th GPPU Congress also appointed Asrokh Nawawi as Chairman of GPPU for the 2026\u20132030 period through consensus deliberation. The new leadership was formally inaugurated by Agung Suganda, Director General of Livestock and Animal Health at the Ministry of Agriculture, in the presence of leaders of GPPU member companies, poultry associations, academics, and industry stakeholders.<\/h6>\n
In his inaugural address, Asrokh emphasized that GPPU would strengthen its role as a strategic partner of the government in formulating various policies related to the poultry industry.<\/h6>\n
\u201cWe will strengthen communication and collaboration with the government and all stakeholders. We hope that every policy formulated will truly be based on real conditions in the field, thereby supporting the sustainable advancement of the poultry industry,\u201d he said.<\/h6>\n
According to Asrokh, GPPU should not merely serve as an organization for breeding companies, but also act as a bridge between regulators and industry players so that various industry challenges can be addressed more effectively.<\/h6>\n
The spirit of regeneration also characterized the new leadership. GPPU Secretary General Tri Mahawijaya Herlambang said that the majority of the 2026\u20132030 leadership team comes from a younger generation.<\/h6>\n
\u201cThis regeneration is expected to make the organization more adaptive and agile in building partnerships, educating members, and responding to the continuously evolving dynamics of the industry,\u201d he said.<\/h6>\n
