Together with the Women Farmers Group, Zhaqraf is strengthening food security at the neighborhood (RT) and community (RW) levels. The KUB chicken eggs managed collectively with local residents are then distributed to toddlers to support stunting prevention efforts.<\/em><\/h6>\n
Involving families in nutrition education and promoting healthy lifestyle habits appears to be one of the most impactful approaches today to building a healthy generation. As the closest environment to children, the home essentially becomes a guidebook for life, as children instinctively learn by imitating the eating habits demonstrated by their family members every day.<\/h6>\n
However, not all households have the same level of knowledge and support when it comes to developing good nutritional habits. Therefore, the surrounding community also needs to play a role in reinforcing these efforts. When parents have access to information, nutritious food, and an environment that encourages a healthy lifestyle, efforts to build a healthy generation become much more attainable.<\/h6>\n
This strategy has increasingly become a focus of nutrition education within micro-level social communities. Zhaqraf Maulida, Chairwoman of the PKK neighborhood organization and initiator of the Women Farmers Group in Cangkiran Subdistrict, Mijen District, Semarang City, is no exception. Through various initiatives, the mother of three, affectionately known as A\u2019af, encourages residents to pay greater attention to nutrition and household food security.<\/h6>\n
Rather than simply explaining theories, she builds healthy habits among residents through activities that can be seen and practiced together, ranging from gardening to livestock farming.<\/h6>\n
The Beginning of Her Nutrition Advocacy<\/strong><\/h6>\n
\"\"Interestingly, Zhaqraf\u2019s concern for nutrition began with her worries about climate change. She initially became curious about ways to reduce waste and learned how to make compost, which eventually developed into a broader interest in balanced nutrition and food security. Climate change is closely linked to food security, as it can affect food prices and availability. Therefore, food self-sufficiency is becoming increasingly important for everyone.<\/h6>\n
Her understanding of nutrition also grew through educational activities conducted in collaboration with various organizations. While serving as a cadre of Fatayat NU Central Java, Zhaqraf received training on Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) from UNICEF. From there, she also learned about the importance of providing children with animal-based protein and combining it with carbohydrates and vegetables in complementary feeding.<\/h6>\n
As she continued learning, she and the Women Farmers Group expanded their food security activities, including growing medicinal herbs and managing livestock. \u201cInitially, I started by creating a garden and inviting friends and local residents to join. We began at the RT level and eventually expanded to the RW level. Along the way, we also developed Budikdamber (fish farming in buckets), raising catfish, and started raising KUB chickens,\u201d she explained via an online interview on Tuesday (23\/6).<\/h6>\n
In particular, raising KUB chickens has enabled the group to produce eggs almost every day, which are then distributed to toddlers through integrated health posts (Posyandu) as a source of protein to help prevent stunting. In addition, organically grown vegetables are also regularly distributed to residents through Posyandu cadres.<\/h6>\n
The initiative to raise KUB chickens actually began with assistance from the Semarang City Agriculture Office through the Perdu Semerbak program (Semarang Integrated Agricultural Village: One Thousand Polybags, Chickens, and Rabbits), which also supports livestock and fisheries activities.<\/h6>\n
