POULTRYINDONESIA, Jakarta \u2014<\/strong> Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) has proposed establishing a dedicated institution or agency to manage the country\u2019s livestock feed sector. The proposal aims to address recurring feed supply and pricing issues that often burden farmers\u2019 production costs, including those in the layer poultry sector.<\/h6>\n
Commission IV Chairperson Siti Hediati Hariyadi said feed-related issues were among the recurring complaints raised by farmers to the House of Representatives. According to her, feed is a fundamental component of livestock farming and therefore requires more structured management and coordination by the government.<\/h6>\n
\u201cLivestock feed is indeed a rather complicated issue. However, every problem has a solution. Feed management should be coordinated by a dedicated institution responsible for meeting the feed requirements of broilers, layer chickens, cattle, goats, and dairy livestock,\u201d Titiek said during a public hearing held by Commission IV of the DPR RI at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (October 6, 2026).<\/h6>\n
She believes that establishing a dedicated agency could be one option for strengthening feed supply chain management, from raw material procurement to distribution to farmers. With more centralized coordination, the government is expected to respond to supply and pricing issues in a more targeted manner.<\/h6>\n
Titiek also proposed that feed raw material procurement, including imports, be managed by a government agency. According to her, this mechanism should be designed to ensure the availability of raw materials at reasonable prices for farmers.<\/h6>\n
\u201cGoing forward, Commission IV is calling for the establishment of a dedicated agency to handle feed-related matters. That way, when complaints arise about feed, it will be clear who is responsible for addressing them and what the obstacles are. Imports of feed or feed raw materials should not be handled exclusively by private companies; a government agency should also be able to import, process, and distribute them to farmers at reasonable prices,\u201d she said.<\/h6>\n
In addition to proposing the establishment of a dedicated agency, Titiek said she planned to communicate with Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman and state-owned logistics company Perum Bulog to discuss stabilizing corn prices. Corn is one of the main raw materials used in poultry feed, making price fluctuations a significant factor affecting farmers\u2019 production costs.<\/h6>\n
According to Titiek, the issue requires further discussion, particularly as the government has stated that Indonesia has achieved corn self-sufficiency. She believes this achievement should be accompanied by adequate corn supplies and affordable prices for farmers.<\/h6>\n
\u201cAfter this, I will contact the Minister and Bulog to discuss stabilizing corn prices, especially for farmers. The government says Indonesia has achieved corn self-sufficiency. If we are indeed self-sufficient, does that mean the country\u2019s entire corn demand can already be met? This is what we will ask about and work to address,\u201d Titiek said.<\/h6>\n
The proposal to establish a dedicated feed management agency has emerged as one of the key ideas in discussions on livestock industry challenges within Commission IV of the DPR RI. Moving forward, effective feed management will depend not only on raw material availability but also on procurement mechanisms, price stabilization, and distribution systems capable of consistently reaching farmers.<\/h6>\n
