SPACE 2026 demonstrates that the future of livestock farming will be determined not only by productivity, but also by the industry’s ability to manage water resources, address climate change, safeguard animal health, and adopt technology.<\/em><\/h6>\n
Upon entering the Parc-Expo de Rennes in France, visitors encounter an atmosphere quite different from that of livestock exhibitions commonly seen in Indonesia. The cooler September temperatures, expansive exhibition grounds, and crowds of visitors and exhibitors from various countries are immediately noticeable. Companies, farmers, researchers, and industry players gather in one venue bustling with activity throughout the three-day event.<\/h6>\n
This was the atmosphere at SPACE 2026, held on September 15\u201317, 2026. This year marked the 40th edition of SPACE, one of Europe’s largest livestock exhibitions. Following the successful conclusion of the event, SPACE recorded approximately 100,107 visitors and 1,019 exhibitors, with around one-third of exhibitors coming from outside France.<\/h6>\n
The exhibition’s scale was also evident in its layout, which covered 11 sector-specific halls and 16 hectares of outdoor exhibition space. SPACE brought together various livestock sectors, including cattle, poultry, pigs, sheep, goats, rabbits, and aquaculture. Other featured sectors included genetics and reproduction, animal nutrition and health, agricultural equipment and machinery, livestock housing, energy, services, digital solutions, and technology.<\/h6>\n
For the poultry industry, the main activity hub was Hall 10, where visitors could find a wide range of companies involved in poultry production. Several other halls also showcased sectors closely related to the poultry industry, including feed and nutrition, animal health, genetics, livestock equipment and technology, as well as housing and housing systems. Activities at SPACE extended beyond the exhibition halls. The 16-hectare outdoor area provided space for the display of various agricultural machines and equipment.<\/h6>\n
SPACE’s program extended beyond exhibitions, livestock competitions, and presentations. The organizers scheduled more than 100 conferences over the three days, farm visits, and business meetings between exhibitors and visitors. International visitors also had access to the International Club, while the Youth Forum provided a platform for young people, students, and newcomers to the agricultural sector to exchange experiences. SPACE also featured a dedicated aquaculture zone, extending the event’s scope to include the aquatic farming sector.<\/h6>\n

These activities made SPACE more than just a venue for showcasing products. Over three days, the exhibition served as a meeting point for farmers, buyers, researchers, consultants, investors, government institutions, and industry players from various countries. The organizers also provided business-to-business (B2B) meeting facilities, allowing visitors to schedule meetings with exhibitors according to their respective fields and needs.<\/h6>\n
Water and Climate Change Take Center Stage<\/strong><\/h6>\n
Amid this broad range of activities, SPACE 2026 highlighted one central issue of shared concern: water. Under the theme \u201cWater, the Source of Livestock Farming!\u201d<\/em>, water was positioned as a strategic issue at a time when climate change is increasingly affecting livestock production systems.<\/h6>\n
SPACE Chairman Didier Lucas<\/strong> stated that the agricultural and livestock sectors are undergoing major changes, increasingly accelerated by climate change. \u201cThe summer of 2026 provided a clear picture of what the future of agriculture may look like. These conditions further underscore the need to preserve, manage, and secure water resources, particularly in western France,\u201d he said.<\/h6>\n
In livestock production, water is used not only for animal drinking but also for cleaning facilities, sanitation, and maintaining a suitable barn environment. In poultry farming, water availability and quality are closely linked to drinking water consumption, watering systems, housing hygiene, and chicken health.<\/h6>\n
Therefore, the water issue highlighted at SPACE went beyond ensuring an adequate supply. It also focused on how water can be used efficiently. This was reflected in discussions at Espace for the Future<\/em>, a dedicated area for exploring water management innovations. The platform brought together farmers’ firsthand accounts of on-farm challenges, expert-led workshops, and discussion forums examining solutions for livestock farming under both current and future conditions.<\/h6>\n
