POULTRYINDONESIA, Jakarta<\/strong> \u2013 The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) has instructed Perum Bulog and PT Rajawali Nusantara Indonesia (Persero), also known as ID FOOD, to immediately absorb eggs produced by farmers worth Rp30 billion. This emergency measure aims to support layer farmers who have been facing downward price pressures for the past seven months.<\/h6>\n
The instruction was delivered by Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman during a Feed Corn Partnership Coordination Meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture’s office in Jakarta on Tuesday (October 27, 2026). The meeting also addressed farmers’ complaints about unprofitable egg prices and rising feed costs.<\/h6>\n
Suwardi, Chairman of the Kendal Sejahtera Poultry Farmers Cooperative, described the struggles farmers continue to face in keeping their businesses afloat amid low egg prices. He expressed hope that the government would facilitate egg purchases through its food assistance program, ensuring that farmers’ production could be absorbed and their businesses could recover.<\/h6>\n
\u201cWe are really struggling with egg prices right now, sir. We hope you would be willing to speak to the President about providing food assistance that could absorb eggs from farmers. Why? Because we have been in a slump for seven months,\u201d Suwardi lamented.<\/h6>\n
In addition to egg prices, Suwardi highlighted rising feed costs, which are placing an increasingly heavy burden on small-scale farmers. He explained that he still relies on feed supplied by concentrate feed manufacturers. When he asked manufacturers why prices had increased, they explained that the price of soybean meal (SBM) offered to feed companies had also risen.<\/h6>\n
\u201cI am a small-scale farmer who still relies on feed from concentrate manufacturers, sir. However, when I asked the manufacturers why prices had gone up, they said the SBM prices offered to them had also increased. We hope the Minister of Agriculture can provide subsidies for smallholder farmers, especially if feed prices from manufacturers continue to rise,\u201d Suwardi said.<\/h6>\n
In response to these complaints, Amran instructed the task force to inspect companies selling feed at high prices. The inspection will also investigate the SBM prices offered to feed companies, given that the commodity is a major component of production costs.<\/h6>\n

To address the egg absorption problem, Amran instructed Bulog and ID FOOD to immediately begin purchasing eggs, with the total value estimated at Rp30 billion. He said both state-owned enterprises were capable of carrying out the assignment and urged them to begin implementation without delay.<\/h6>\n
\u201cI have asked Bulog and ID FOOD to absorb farmers’ eggs worth a total of Rp30 billion. This absorption must be followed up immediately, as was done under the previous Market and Food Price Stabilization Program (SPHP),\u201d he said.<\/h6>\n
In addition to this emergency measure, the government is encouraging egg purchases through the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program. Amran said he had communicated with the Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Sudaryono, to encourage the program to absorb eggs produced by farmers.<\/h6>\n
\u201cWe are seeking several solutions for eggs. First, the MBG program should absorb them. We have already discussed this with the Head of BGN,\u201d he said.<\/h6>\n
According to Amran, egg purchases through the MBG program are expected to expand market opportunities for farmers. For a longer-term solution, the government is also preparing plans to build an egg-processing plant that will convert eggs into egg powder. The facility is planned to be developed by a state-owned enterprise (SOE).<\/h6>\n
\u201cThe second solution, for the long term, is to build a factory to process eggs into egg powder,\u201d he added.<\/h6>\n
Amran said the plant’s development had been discussed directly with Dony Oskaria, Danantara’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Head of the State-Owned Enterprises Agency (BP BUMN). Processing eggs into powder is expected to become one of the long-term measures to address the challenges of absorbing farmers’ output.<\/h6>\n
Meanwhile, the government is also discussing regulations on egg reference prices to maintain a balance between farmers’ interests and those of consumers. The discussions follow feedback from farmers who believe that the current reference price for eggs at the farm level is still too low.<\/h6>\n
\u201cPlease keep us in your prayers as we first work out the government reference price, or government purchase price, followed by the highest retail price. These measures are still being discussed, and we will do our best for farmers. But remember, consumers must not be made to bear the burden either,\u201d Amran said.<\/h6>\n
These measures represent the government’s response to the pressures facing layer farmers, ranging from difficulties in marketing their eggs to high feed costs. Egg purchases by Bulog and ID FOOD are expected to help address the farmers’ immediate difficulties, while absorption through the MBG program, the planned egg powder plant, and discussions on reference prices form part of the government’s longer-term response.<\/h6>\n
