Setiap populasi 20.000 broiler menghasilkan \u00b115 ton litter. Kondisi makro dan mikroklimat kandang menjadi salah satu faktor keberhasilan peternakan. Keadaan makro dan mikroklimat kandang dapat dipengaruhi oleh ketinggian wilayah kandang. Suhu ekstrim dapat membuat ternak stres sehingga mempengaruhi produktivitas ternak. Suhu optimum untuk perkembangan dan pertumbuhan ayam broiler berkisar 18-21<sup>o<\/sup>C. Salah satu upaya memperbaiki manajemen pemeliharaan yang berkaitan dengan kenyamanan ternak yaitu penggunaan alas dan penghangat berupa litter.<\/h6>\n<blockquote class=\"td_pull_quote td_pull_center\"><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Alas kandang (litter) memegang peranan penting dalam kegiatan budi daya ayam<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h6>Litter di Jawa Tengah umumnya berasal dari sekam padi. Komposisi litter ayam broiler setelah panen berupa manure, sekam, bulu dan sisa pakan. Litter yang bagus tidak menjadi tempat tumbuhnya parasit. Litter yang baik memiliki ciri tekstur kering, mampu menyerap air, tidak mengandung bahan yang berbahaya dan bebas dari debu. Profil dan kualitas litter ayam broiler yang dipelihara di kandang closed house pada ketinggian dataran yang berbeda dapat dilihat pada Tabel 1.<\/h6>\n<h6><strong>Tabel 1. <\/em><em>Mdpl: meter di atas permukaan laut<\/em><\/h6>\n<h6>Jika melihat data pada Tabel 1. menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata ketebalan litter pada kandang closed house yaitu 6,27\u20138,01 cm. Ketebalan litter di awal periode pemeliharaan berkisar 5-8 cm, akan mengalami penambahan litter selama periode pemeliharaan. Ketinggian dataran termasuk ke dalam faktor makroklimat kandang yang berhubungan dengan kondisi mikroklimat kandang. Ketika suhu sekitar kandang rendah, maka dibutuhkan alas kandang yang tebal untuk membantu ternak mencapai comfort zone.<\/h6>\n<h6>Ketebalan litter pada setiap kandang dipengaruhi oleh manajemen pemeliharaan, jenis ayam dan lingkungan kandang yang mencakup faktor ketinggian lokasi, suhu dan kelembaban. Selama proses pemeliharaan dilakukan pergantian dan penambahan litter untuk mengurangi kadar amonia dalam kandang. Kadar amonia yang tinggi di dalam kandang dapat menjadi awal munculnya penyakit pada ayam broiler.<\/h6>\n<p><strong>Baca juga : <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.poultryindonesia.com\/upaya-untuk-menurunkan-kadar-amonia-dalam-kandang-dan-lingkungan\/\">Upaya untuk Menurunkan Kadar Amonia dalam Kandang dan Lingkungan<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h6>Litter merupakan alas yang digunakan pada pemeliharaan ayam broiler sekaligus berfungsi sebagai penghangat bagi ayam broiler. Pada masa akhir pemeliharaan ayam broiler, litter yang berbahan dasar sekam akan bercampur dengan manure ayam broiler yang dihasilkan pada saat pemeliharaan. Manure ayam broiler mengandung bahan organik dan anorganik serta memiliki kandungan amonia tinggi. Persentase litter terdiri dari campuran dari sekam dan manure ayam broiler. Hasil rata-rata persentase sekam berkisar 30,48 &#8211; 39,24% dan persentase manure berkisar 60,75 &#8211; 69,53%. Semakin tinggi persentase sekam maka semakin tinggi juga kandungan serat kasarnya (SK). Persentase manure yang semakin tinggi akan mempengaruhi kandungan protein kasar litter tersebut. Hal ini disebabkan tingginya kandungan non protein nitrogen pada manure, maka semakin tinggi kandungan nitrogen ekskreta, akan diikuti dengan peningkatan kadar amonia pada litter.
