POULTRYINDONESIA, Jakarta – Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded a national monthly inflation rate of 0.41 percent in March 2026, marked by an increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 110.57 in February to 110.95. Rising prices in the food and transportation sectors were the primary drivers behind these figures.

Ateng Hartono, Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, revealed that this month’s inflation was mainly contributed by the food, beverages, and tobacco group.
“The food, beverages, and tobacco group experienced an inflation of 0.7 percent and provided the largest contribution, namely 0.32 percent, to the March inflation,” he stated during the BPS Press Release received on Wednesday (1/4/2026).
Within that group, fresh fish and broiler chicken meat each contributed 0.06 percent to inflation. Rice followed with a 0.03 percent contribution, while chicken eggs, bird’s eye chilies, cooking oil, and beef each contributed 0.02 percent.
In DKI Jakarta, broiler chicken meat actually took the top spot as the largest inflation-contributing commodity. The Head of BPS DKI Jakarta, Kadarmanto, reported that broiler chicken meat saw an inflation rate of 6.48 percent.
“The highest contributor to inflation in Jakarta is broiler chicken meat, with 6.48 percent inflation and a 0.08 percent contribution to the capital’s monthly inflation,” he noted.
The transportation sector was also highlighted. Gasoline was recorded as contributing 0.04 percent to national inflation and 0.06 percent in DKI Jakarta, with an inflation rate of 1.27 percent.
“Gasoline and intercity transportation also pushed inflation from the transport side, reflecting increased public mobility,” Kadarmanto explained.
The volatile food component recorded the highest inflation at 1.58 percent, with a 0.27 percent contribution. Broiler chicken meat, rice, chicken eggs, bird’s eye chilies, and beef were the most influential commodities within this component.
Meanwhile, core inflation stood at 0.13 percent with a 0.08 percent contribution, primarily driven by cooking oil and prepared rice dishes. The administered prices component experienced 0.31 percent inflation with a 0.06 percent contribution, triggered by rising gasoline prices, intercity transport fares, and machine-rolled clove cigarettes (SKM).
On the other hand, several commodities experienced price decreases that helped restrain further inflation. Airfares recorded a deflation of 4.58 percent, with a 0.05 percent contribution in DKI Jakarta. Nationally, airfares and gold jewelry each provided a deflationary contribution of 0.03 percent.
“The decline in airfares and gold jewelry prices served as a significant buffer against inflation this month,” said Ateng.
In addition to airfares, train fares, mobile phones, face masks, and toll road tariffs also recorded deflation, though with relatively small contributions.
Geographically, March 2026 inflation occurred in 34 out of 38 provinces in Indonesia, while the other four provinces experienced deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Highland Papua at 2.57 percent, while the deepest deflation occurred in Maluku at 0.75 percent.
