POULTRYINDONESIA, Jakarta – The Head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas), Andi Amran Sulaiman, emphasized that the prices of broiler chicken and eggs must not increase. This firm statement was issued considering that both commodities have reached a national surplus.
“Chicken meat and eggs must not rise [in price]. We have a surplus. There is no reason for an increase. We are now self-sufficient in nine commodities, including eggs and chicken meat,” said Amran during the National Simultaneous Cheap Food Movement (GPM) event in Jakarta (Feb 13, 2026).
The price stability of chicken and eggs remains a primary government concern. These affordable animal protein sources must be maintained within the public’s reach. The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) noted that the average prices of both commodities began to slightly exceed the Consumer Reference Sales Price (HAP) in the second week of February 2026.
As of the second week of February 2026, the average price for broiler chicken was recorded at Rp40,471 per kg, slightly above the maximum Consumer HAP of Rp40,000 per kg. An increase in the Price Development Index (IPH) for broiler chicken was experienced by 155 regencies/cities.
Out of those 155 regions, only 53 saw average prices exceed the Consumer HAP. Meanwhile, 102 other regions experienced an IPH increase, but their average prices remained below the threshold.
For chicken eggs, the national average price reached Rp31,757 per kg against a maximum Consumer HAP of Rp30,000 per kg. While 80 regions saw an IPH increase for eggs, only 28 regencies/cities saw prices cross the HAP limit. The remaining 52 regions remained relatively safe as average egg prices stayed within the corridor.
Strategic Collaborations
To maintain price stability, Bapanas is collaborating with the private sector to hold a Cheap Food Movement (GPM) for frozen chicken meat. This partnership involves PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk (CPI) and PT Japfa Comfeed Indonesia (Japfa).
CPI is holding the frozen chicken GPM at 1,200 retail outlets across Indonesia, while Japfa ensures availability at 500 of its network outlets. The public is guaranteed to obtain frozen chicken for Rp40,000 per kg from February 18 until the day before Eid al-Fitr.
“For chicken meat in several areas, specifically Jakarta and Tangerang, conditions are still relatively good. The highest price is Rp40,000. This is a positive initiative with PT CPI and Japfa. Thus, the public is guaranteed the ability to purchase according to the government-set HAP,” said Maino Dwi Hartono, Director of Food Supply and Price Stabilization, in Jakarta (Feb 19, 2026).
Maino explained that egg prices are currently monitored as stable without excessive volatility. There is high optimism regarding egg price control throughout Ramadan.
Intervention for Farmers
Egg prices currently vary between Rp29,000 and Rp31,000, with a downward trend in several locations. Beyond targeting consumers, the government has also prepared a food intervention package for poultry farmers through the 2026 Feed Corn Supply and Price Stabilization (SPHP) program. This program is expected to be a breath of fresh air as the corn SPHP target has increased nearly fivefold compared to last year’s realization.
“With a budget of Rp678 billion, the target for feed corn SPHP distribution to farmers can reach a total of 242,000 tons. In 2025, distribution stood at 51,200 tons, targeting 3,578 layer chicken farmers across 17 provinces,” Maino explained.
