POULTRYINDONESIA, Jakarta – Poultry products as an animal protein source fulfil about 65% of protein needs in Indonesia. Poultry product also known as the cheapest animal protein source among other livestock and also rich in nutrition for human health. Therefore, food safety in these poultry products should be maintained in order to obtain nutritional content and safe for human consumption.
In constitution number 18/2012 about food, the definition of food safety is a condition, or an effort needed to prevent food from biological contamination, chemical, and other stuff that interfere, harmful, and dangerous for human health as well as not contradicting with religion, belief, and cultural belief, so that it will safe for consumption.
To complete food safety definition, Indonesian citizen are familiar with safety, healthy, whole, and halal or known as ASUH. This aspect also become a slogan for people to get their rights to obtain safe and appropriate animal product. The society is also required to be a smart consumer in terms of sorting out information to avoided hoaxes news, especially for poultry product. False news that still linger on poultry product, particularly chicken meat is about the use of hormone in broiler production. Egg also inseparable from false news, egg products are also accused as a fake eggs or plastic eggs.

It is important to realize that to obtain a safe food product from poultry, it must go through a long process. Start from cultivation process, slaughtering process, storing, distribution, selling, until arrived to consumer hand. Factors relating to food safety of animal origin, including poultry, are present in each of these process chains. Food safety aspect also becomes an absolute thing to fulfil in order to maintain human health. Furthermore, this also needed to support the government program to eradicate stunting in Indonesia so that the nutritional value of food remain intact and can be absorbed optimally.
A lot of efforts needed from all parties which involved in poultry sector to preserve and improve food safety of poultry product in Indonesia. In addition, continuous education of food safety for Indonesian society also require to prevent hoax about poultry product that influence on poultry product consumption.
