POULTRYINDONESIA, Jakarta – The national supply and demand for chicken eggs in 2026 is considered relatively secure, with a potential surplus, even as Indonesia enters the National Religious Holidays (HBKN) period. Indications of sufficient supply are evident from egg price trends, which have remained stable and have not experienced the seasonal spikes typical of previous years.
This was conveyed by Suwardi, Chairman of the Prosperous Poultry Farmers Cooperative (KPUS), via telephone on Monday (2/2). Historically, leading up to HBKN, egg prices usually rise due to increased demand from households and the food industry. However, in early 2026, this phenomenon has not fully materialized. This strengthens indications that egg supplies at the production level are still sufficient to meet domestic market needs.
“Although the supply is considered sufficient nationally, price disparities still occur, particularly between the western and eastern regions of Indonesia. Logistics challenges cause egg prices in some areas to jump by thousands of rupiah above the national average.”
According to Suwardi, the issue lies not only in production but also in the distribution chain, including transportation costs and logistics effectiveness. When distribution is suboptimal, prices in destination regions become more expensive, while prices at production centers remain stable or even decline.
“I believe one of the biggest challenges in maintaining the supply-demand balance of eggs in Indonesia is the high production cost structure. From raw feed materials and the feed production process to final product distribution, everything is burdened by additional cost components, including taxes and logistics.”
If this cost structure can be reduced, egg prices at the consumer level have the potential to be much lower than current conditions. In addition to distribution factors, the price dynamics of Day Old Chicks (DOC), soybean meal (SBM), and feed corn also determine the stability of egg production. While government reference price policies exist, field implementation is still influenced by market behavior, including the role of agents and the dynamic needs of farmers.
