POULTRYINDONESIA, Jakarta – The Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) continues to accelerate the implementation of the integrated poultry downstreaming program as a strategic step to strengthen animal protein-based food security while also providing business certainty for smallholder farmers and poultry industry players.
This initiative follows up on the President’s directive during a Limited Cabinet Meeting on March 25, 2026, which emphasized accelerating downstreaming programs across all ministries and agencies. In response, the MoA held an evaluation and acceleration meeting for the integrated poultry downstreaming program at its headquarters on Thursday, March 26, 2026.
The Director General of Livestock and Animal Health at the MoA, Agung Suganda, stressed that the acceleration of the program must not stop at administrative reporting but must be clearly visible on the ground. He emphasized that progress should cover the entire production chain, from farms and poultry slaughterhouses to feed mills.
According to him, this effort is also a follow-up to the directive of the Minister of Agriculture and Head of the National Food Agency, Andi Amran Sulaiman, who has pushed for the acceleration of downstreaming in the livestock sector so that it can deliver tangible impacts as soon as possible.
The integrated poultry downstreaming program is currently focused on five priority regions using a comprehensive ecosystem development approach, covering breeding, farming, feed production, processing, and distribution. This approach is expected to address price fluctuations and limited market access, which have long been major challenges for farmers.
With an integrated system, farmers’ production can be absorbed more optimally and consistently. This not only provides market certainty but also improves supply chain efficiency and strengthens the competitiveness of the national poultry industry.
Agung also highlighted the importance of accelerating implementation through a parallel approach to avoid delays. He stated that issues that cannot be resolved at the technical level must be reported immediately, while executable matters should be carried out without delay.
The acceleration of this program also opens up investment opportunities in the poultry sector. The Finance and HR Director of PT Berdikari, Kaspiyah, stated that the company is preparing various aspects in parallel, including licensing, partner sourcing, and technical readiness in the field, so that the project can commence immediately once approval is obtained.
Meanwhile, the Director of Production and Development at Holding Perkebunan Nusantara PTPN III, Rizal H. Damanik, expressed readiness to support land provision for the development of various supporting infrastructures, including poultry farms, feed mills, and processing industries.
For farmers, the integrated poultry downstreaming program offers benefits such as guaranteed absorption of production, cost efficiency, and access to more modern technology and business management. On the other hand, for industry players, the program creates a more structured and competitive business ecosystem.
The Director of Livestock Product Downstreaming at the MoA, Makmun, emphasized that acceleration must be followed by concrete execution in the field so that the benefits can be felt immediately. He stressed that physical development and operational activities must go hand in hand with planning.
The Ministry of Agriculture affirmed that accelerating integrated poultry downstreaming is a concrete manifestation of the government’s presence in protecting farmers while strengthening the national livestock sector. By focusing on on-the-ground implementation, the government is optimistic that this program will directly impact production growth, price stability, and farmer welfare, as well as support the realization of the Indonesia Emas 2045 vision.
