POULTRYINDONESIA, Jakarta — The Chairperson of the People’s Economic Empowerment Institution (LPER) Producers Cooperative, H. Mulyadi Atma, conducted a visit and formal audience with the Ministry of Cooperatives of the Republic of Indonesia. The meeting took place at the Ministry’s office on Monday (Jan 26) and was received directly by the Minister of Cooperatives, Dr. Ferry Juliantono, S.E., Ak., M.Si.
Also in attendance from the Ministry of Cooperatives were Panel Barus (Deputy for Cooperative Business Development), Ahmad Zabadi (Secretary of the Ministry), and Deva Rachman, S.Sos., M.Si. (Director of General Affairs and Law). The audience was further attended by the Director General of Livestock and Animal Health (PKH) from the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. drh. Agung Suganda, M.Si., as well as representatives from the National Food Agency (Bapanas).
During the meeting, H. Mulyadi Atma stated that producer cooperatives, particularly in the livestock sector, play a strategic role in supporting government initiatives, most notably the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program and national food security. Consequently, there is a need for tangible government support through the Ministry of Cooperatives, specifically in the form of financing facilitation and institutional strengthening.
“The livestock producer cooperative that we lead serves as a hub for independent and smallholder farmers. To strengthen their role in supporting food security and the MBG program, the government must intervene through financing schemes and policies that favor smallholder farmers,” said H. Mulyadi Atma.
Echoing this sentiment, the Minister of Cooperatives, Dr. Ferry Juliantono, emphasized that the LPER Cooperative has great potential to act as a “super-holding” for independent and smallholder farmers. By strengthening the cooperative, it is hoped that the livestock business chain can be integrated from upstream to downstream, thereby improving farmer welfare and guaranteeing the national availability of animal protein.
This audience marks a strategic step in strengthening the synergy between the LPER Cooperative, the Ministry of Cooperatives, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the National Food Agency in building a sustainable and competitive smallholder livestock ecosystem that contributes significantly to Indonesia’s food security.
