In recent years, many people have mistakenly regarded Runeon® Bile Acids as an emulsifier and assumed that the two work in the same way. If compared solely on price, it may seem easy to choose Runeon® Bile Acids. However, the fact is: the unique physiological functions of bile acids cannot be replaced by any emulsifier.

It is not because you do not understand—rather, because we have not explained it clearly enough. Today, we will clearly break down the differences between Runeon® Bile Acids and emulsifiers.

The HLB Value of Bile Acids Is Different from Emulsifiers

(HLB = 20 × (1 – S/A), where S = saponification value and A = acid value)

The higher the HLB value, the stronger the hydrophilic property and the better its performance in emulsifying oil in water.

Because the intestinal environment is aqueous, emulsifiers with a high HLB value usually perform better. However, bile acids naturally possess both hydrophilic and hydrophobic structures, making them highly suitable for biological fat emulsification, not merely chemical emulsification.

Differences in Mechanism of Action

Bile acids play a role throughout the entire process of fat utilization:
✔ Emulsification
✔ Lipase activation
✔ Micelle formation
✔ Fat absorption

Emulsifiers work only at the initial stage of emulsification.

Value Contribution of Runeon® Bile Acids

Runeon® Bile Acids improve fat digestibility, enhance energy utilization, and reduce feed costs.
In broilers (strain 817, age 0–20 days), supplementation of 200–250 g/ton of Runeon® Bile Acids 30% to replace 2–4 kg/ton of fat increased fat digestibility by 3.75%.

Based on a diet containing 5% fat, Runeon® Bile Acids can save:

50 kg × 3.75% = 1.875 kg of fat per ton of feed

Conclusion

Runeon® Bile Acids are not emulsifiers.
Bile acids are highly important bioactive molecules essential for fat digestion, enzyme activation, nutrient absorption, liver health, and overall metabolism.

Emulsifiers can only assist at the emulsification stage, whereas bile acids function throughout the digestive process and provide a wide range of health benefits far beyond emulsification alone.
