POULTRYINDONESIA, Jakarta — The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) is pushing to strengthen smallholder farmers’ businesses through the development of an integrated chicken industry in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). This program is being implemented through a collaboration between PT Rajawali Nusantara Indonesia (Persero) and the NTB Provincial Government, with funding support from Danantara Indonesia.
This commitment was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the PT Rajawali Nusantara Indonesia (RNI) office in Jakarta on Monday (March 9, 2026).
The Director General of Livestock and Animal Health at the Ministry of Agriculture, Agung Suganda, stated that the integrated chicken downstreaming program is a government step toward strengthening food security—specifically animal protein—and improving the welfare of smallholder farmers.
He revealed that the government had previously held a groundbreaking ceremony for the chicken downstreaming program on February 6, 2026, as part of the acceleration of the program’s implementation.
“The integrated chicken downstreaming project does not only involve physical structures like feed mills and poultry houses but also prepares a system from upstream and cultivation to downstream managed by smallholder farmers. Therefore, we request the support of local governments to synergize with the central government so this project can be realized immediately,” said Agung.
The President Director of PT Rajawali Nusantara Indonesia (Persero), Ghimoyo, stated that the involvement of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) in this program is part of the government’s mandate to strengthen the stability of the national food sector, particularly the poultry commodity.
“The government is present to maintain stability in the food sector, including poultry. Through this integrated chicken downstreaming program, we hope that both feed prices and chicken meat prices in the market can be better controlled, providing certainty for farmers while maintaining affordability for the public,” Ghimoyo remarked.
Meanwhile, the Governor of West Nusa Tenggara, Lalu Muhamad Iqbal, said the provincial government is ready to fully support the development of the integrated chicken industry, including the strengthening of production and distribution ecosystems.
“With this program, NTB is expected to produce its own Day-Old Chicks (DOC) and feed. Although managed by the government, we hope this can provide a new spirit for local farmers,” said Iqbal.
He added that the NTB Provincial Government will also support smooth distribution by strengthening logistics routes via both sea and land transport to ensure the poultry industry supply chain runs optimally.
This collaboration is expected to be the first step in developing a modern poultry industrial zone integrated from upstream to downstream, while simultaneously strengthening national food security and improving the welfare of regional farmers.
