POULTRYINDONESIA, Malang – Brawijaya University (UB) held the 2026 Prana Satwa Brawijaya Rector’s Cup at the Samantha Krida Building on its Malang campus on October 24–25, 2026. As part of the university’s 64th anniversary celebrations, the event featured various animal competitions and exhibitions, while also serving as a platform for education and highlighting the economic potential of the livestock sector.
The event was organized through a collaboration between UB and PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk. A wide variety of animals were showcased, including ornamental chickens, Pelung chickens, Serama chickens, ornamental pigeons, cats, and various exotic animals.
In his remarks, UB Rector Prof. Widodo, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., Med.Sc., emphasized the importance of recognizing and preserving Indonesia’s animal biodiversity. He noted that this natural wealth holds considerable potential for scientific advancement and economic development.
“Today, we can see many different kinds of animals, with an extraordinary diversity. These animals can serve as genetic resources to be developed and utilized for the welfare of society. Nature offers an endless source of knowledge,” Widodo said on Saturday (October 24).
He explained that events introducing the public to various animal species could raise awareness of Indonesia’s rich biodiversity. Furthermore, the event represented an effort to strengthen conservation and prevent different animal species from becoming endangered.
“When something is done well and with passion, it not only creates an impact but can also generate economic benefits from the hobby itself,” he said.
According to Widodo, an interest in animals can go beyond a hobby and open up opportunities for new businesses and innovation. He encouraged students to recognize this potential as an opportunity to develop startups that create added value for society.
Meanwhile, Benyamin Limi, Regional Head of East Java at PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk., expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to collaborate with UB. He also reaffirmed CP’s continued commitment to working with universities.
“This collaboration between higher education institutions and industry is expected to continue, particularly in the development of education, research, and livestock farming practices.”
The opening ceremony also featured an egg-eating campaign to educate the public about the importance of consuming animal protein to improve nutritional quality and support public health.
The event also introduced egg production from UB’s Faculty of Animal Science and Technology teaching farm, which was established with a grant from PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk.
The 2026 Prana Satwa Brawijaya Rector’s Cup was scheduled to run for two days. In addition to competitions, exhibitions, and seminars, the event provided a meeting point for hobbyists, communities, academics, and industry players to exchange knowledge and expand their professional networks.
