POULTRYINDONESIA, BlitarPT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk (CPI) has continued its direct egg purchasing program from smallholder farmers through its initiative titled “Sharing Benefits for the Community.” This time, the company once again purchased eggs from farmers in Blitar, East Java, one of Indonesia’s largest egg-producing regions.
Previously, CPI carried out a similar initiative by purchasing approximately 1.5 metric tons of eggs from Blitar farmers who had been forced to sell their products along the roadside due to depressed farm-gate egg prices.
Bonari, a layer farmer and member of the Ultra Cooperative, welcomed the initiative, saying it provides tangible support for independent farmers struggling with low egg prices, particularly in major production centers such as Blitar.
“Programs like this are very helpful for smallholder farmers during a period of extremely low egg prices. Direct purchases from farmers also reduce pressure from middlemen, allowing farmers to receive fairer prices,” he said.
A similar sentiment was expressed by Purnawan, a farmer and member of the KOPI Cooperative, who hopes the program will continue and expand so that more smallholder farmers can benefit.
“Hopefully, initiatives like this will continue and reach more farmers, enabling smallholders to survive despite the challenging market conditions,” he said.
Meanwhile, Alfareza, a farmer and member of the KEPO Cooperative, also expressed his appreciation and gratitude to CPI for purchasing eggs directly from local farmers.
While the eggs purchased during the previous initiative were distributed to CPI employees at its production facilities and used in various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs, the eggs purchased from Blitar this time will be distributed to community health posts (Posyandu) serving young children in Bringinbendo Village, Taman District, Sidoarjo Regency, as part of the company’s CSR program.
Head of the Trosobo Community Health Center (Puskesmas), drg. Devy Febrina Rindianti, expressed appreciation for CPI’s egg donation to support Posyandu activities in the area.
“We sincerely appreciate the CSR contribution in the form of eggs for our Posyandu program. We hope initiatives like this will continue as part of the collective effort to nurture a healthy and high-quality future generation for Indonesia,” she said.
