POULTRYINDONESIA, Malang – The ornamental chicken contest was one of the main attractions at the Rector’s Trophy Prana Satwa Brawijaya 2026, held at the Samantha Krida Building, Universitas Brawijaya (UB), Malang, on October 24–25, 2026. On the second day, various ornamental chicken breeds competed, including Serama, Pelung, Sultan, Polish, and many others.
The event, part of UB’s 64th anniversary celebrations, was organized through a collaboration between UB and PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk. In addition to the ornamental chicken contest, the event also featured ornamental pigeon and cat competitions, as well as an exhibition of various exotic animals.
The Poultry Indonesia team had the opportunity to interview Rully Wicaksono, Chairman of the East Java chapter of the Indonesian Ornamental Chicken Enthusiasts Association (APAH Indonesia), who said that interest in ornamental chickens in East Java had continued to grow over the past year.
“Contests provide an opportunity for breeders to showcase the results of their husbandry, compare chicken quality, and exchange experiences with fellow enthusiasts,” he said.
Rully also noted that animal competitions and exhibitions could serve as educational platforms for the public to learn about the diversity of ornamental chickens and Indonesia’s native chicken breeds.
