POULTRYINDONESIA, Yogyakarta – The Indonesian People’s Poultry Association (PINSAR Indonesia) held the Chicken & Egg Run 2026 in Yogyakarta on Sunday (July 18, 2026). Attended by nearly 3,000 participants, the event marked the culmination of the National Chicken and Egg Day (HATN) celebrations and served as an initiative to encourage greater chicken and egg consumption among the public.
PINSAR Indonesia Chairman Singgih Januratmoko explained that the event aimed to raise awareness of the importance of ensuring access to affordable animal protein. According to him, chicken and eggs are relatively inexpensive and readily accessible sources of protein, making it important to promote them as part of people’s daily diets.
Currently, chicken consumption in Indonesia stands at around 14–15 kilograms per capita per year, while egg consumption reaches approximately 23 kilograms per capita per year. These figures remain well below consumption levels in neighboring countries.
“Our hope is that through this event, people will learn from an early age that chicken and eggs are the most affordable sources of protein in Indonesia and are essential, especially for the children of future generations,” Singgih said.
Furthermore, Singgih emphasized that adequate animal protein intake plays an important role in improving human resource quality, particularly by supporting children’s growth, development, and cognitive abilities. However, efforts to increase chicken and egg consumption must be accompanied by improvements in business conditions across the poultry sector to make these products even more affordable.
According to him, industry players continue to face high production costs, partly due to expensive feed, particularly corn as a key raw material. This situation presents a challenge for farmers seeking to provide affordable products to consumers while maintaining business sustainability.
“Although chicken and eggs are currently the cheapest compared with other protein sources, lower prices would certainly be even better. We want to send a message to the government to lower the government-set price benchmarks so that everyone can afford to buy them,” he said.
Support for strengthening the poultry ecosystem was also expressed by Koko Haryono, Expert Staff to the Minister of Cooperatives for Public Policy. He praised PINSAR Indonesia’s initiative and encouraged the strengthening of farmer institutions through cooperatives to improve business operators’ access to various forms of support.
“We hope PINSAR can strengthen its organization through cooperatives, because cooperatives will serve as an ecosystem that provides support from upstream to downstream,” he said.
The strengthening of cooperatives is expected to improve business management, facilitate access to financing, and integrate farmers into strategic government programs, including the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program and the Merah Putih Village Cooperatives initiative.
“With stronger institutional support, farmers are expected to gain access to broader market opportunities while strengthening the sustainability of Indonesia’s national poultry industry,” he stressed.
