POULTRYINDONESIA, Tangerang — The first day of Indo Livestock 2026 at NICE PIK 2, Tangerang, on Tuesday (June 16), featured a variety of activities that attracted visitors’ attention, one of which was the Indo Livestock Grand Championship (ILGC), showcasing hundreds of superior livestock from various regions across Indonesia.
For the first time, livestock competitions and the Garut Sheep Agility Contest (Seni Ketangkasan Domba Garut/SKDG) were held inside an international exhibition venue (indoor), integrated with the Indo Livestock event series taking place from June 16–18, 2026. This format was considered to provide a different experience for both participants and visitors, as it allowed the public to observe various types of livestock directly in a more comfortable environment.
Agung Suganda, Director General of Livestock and Animal Health Services at Indonesia’s Ministry of Agriculture, said that holding the livestock competition inside the exhibition hall represents a new step in introducing community-based livestock farming to a broader audience.
“This year marks the first time that the livestock competition and the Garut Sheep Agility Contest have been integrated with Indo Livestock in an indoor format. The results have been very positive. It is more comfortable for participants, more comfortable for the animals, and also more comfortable for members of the public who want to learn about the livestock sector firsthand,” Agung said during the opening of the ILGC on Tuesday (June 16).
Agung also noted that Indonesia’s livestock subsector continues to show positive growth. In addition to achieving self-sufficiency in chicken meat and egg production, Indonesia is now considered capable of meeting domestic demand for sheep and goat meat through local production.
Yudi Guntara, Chairman of the Indonesian Sheep and Goat Breeders Association (HPDKI), stated that hosting the Garut Sheep Agility Contest within an international exhibition venue provides an opportunity to introduce Indonesia’s local sheep breeds to a wider audience.
“Today, the public can directly witness the quality of the finest Garut sheep breeding stock, which represents one of the nation’s valuable genetic resources. This is not only about competition but also about preserving Indonesia’s livestock heritage,” he said.
Yudi added that the event continued to prioritize animal welfare principles, both during the judging process and throughout the animals’ performances in the arena.
Indo Livestock 2026 will run until June 18, featuring a wide range of activities, including exhibitions, seminars, conferences, and business forums involving livestock industry stakeholders from various countries. In the poultry sector, several sessions will address current issues related to poultry health, feed technology, production management, biosecurity, and opportunities for the development of Indonesia’s poultry industry.
