POULTRYINDONESIA, Boyolali – A team of lecturers from the Diploma III Animal Husbandry Study Program, Vocational School of Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta conducted a community service program by providing training on native chicken production and marketing management to the “Unggas Sejahtera” Farmer Group in Kemiri Village, Mojosongo District, Boyolali Regency, on Wednesday (July 8, 2026).

The activity was a continuation of the assistance program carried out in the previous year, which focused on introducing the fundamentals of poultry farming. This year, the program was expanded to emphasize socio-economic strengthening, institutional governance, and market acceleration.

Head of the UNS Community Service Team, Aan Andri Yano, S.Pt., M.Sc., emphasized that program sustainability is essential to ensure that practical knowledge developed within the university does not remain merely theoretical. According to him, the ultimate goal of improving management from upstream to downstream is to foster economic independence that directly contributes to increasing farmers’ daily income.

The training sessions were delivered in parallel by academics according to their respective fields of expertise. Luthfi Adya Pradista, S.Pt., M.Pt., presented material on intensive poultry management and the implementation of strict biosecurity measures to minimize depletion risks in KUB (Balitnak Superior Native Chicken) and Elba chickens. Meanwhile, Dr. Wahyu Setyono, S.Pt., M.Sc., discussed strategies for strengthening farmer group institutions, while Aan Andri Yano, S.Pt., M.Sc., explained marketing strategies aimed at increasing product value and competitiveness to enable access to more modern markets.

Aditya Arya Syahputra, Chairman of the Unggas Sejahtera Farmer Group, welcomed the initiative. He noted that the training provided practical solutions to challenges related to rising operational costs and feed inefficiencies that had long affected the profitability of group members. Throughout the program, discussions were highly interactive and dynamic. Farmers actively consulted the experts on poultry disease mitigation strategies as well as packaging methods to enhance product value and marketability.

This strategic partnership program was fully funded by the UNS Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) through the Research Group Grant Scheme under Contract Number 463/UN27.22/PT.01.03/2026. In addition to serving as a vehicle for the downstream application of lecturers’ research outcomes, the activity also involved the Animal Husbandry Student Association (HMB Andalusia) as an effective experiential learning platform. Through this collaboration, the UNS Vocational School remains optimistic that it can stimulate the emergence of new economic growth centers based on local poultry farming in Boyolali Regency.
